Holy flying footballs Batman!!! Where did this Panthers team come from. A week after giving Bret Favre and the Vikings a nice spanking on Sunday Night Football, they come out and utterly destroy the Giants, ending virtually any hopes the Giants may have had for the post season.

It was another huge game for Matt Moore and the injury riddled offensive unit. They played like veterans posting some incredible numbers. Matt Moore threw for 171 yards on 15 of 20 passes with 3 TD passes. Jonathan Stewart showed his teeth running for 206 yards on 28 carries (which I believe is a team record). Unfortunately Steve Smith broke his forearm on a touchdown catch from Moore and won’t play in the final game. The defense played probably their best game all year. The Panthers are now 7-8 on the year and have an excellent shot at going 8-8 for the season.

The performance the past two weeks will more than likely help keep Fox employed but I sure hope he’s paying attention to Moore. I think if they go out and play half as good against the Saints next week that the quarterback for next season should be a given. I Fox stays and Jakes healthy I’m sure he’ll say Jake’s “his guy”, he’s nothing if not loyal to a player (usually for far too long). I guess we’ll have to wait to see which way that ball bounces.

Matt Moore started his second game this season against the Patriots yesterday. In a not so great showing last week against the Bucs, this week was a bit better, even if they did lose. It’s frustrating that the coaching staff doesn’t seem to want to get behind him, if nothing else, this game shows there is certainly potential there that should be cultivated.

The offense performed well, I think it just needs some time to get in sync. This revolving door of players isn’t helping. Defense was solid, the Patriots just out paced the kitty kats. Hopefully they get some solid practice time heading into Sunday nights meet up with the Vikings.

Anyone that knows me knows I’m a big Carolina Panthers fan. I watch every game, go to a few and more than tolerate the “rebuilding years” that are too often the norm. That said, what I am not is a John Fox or Jake Delhomme fan and I’m quickly getting on the anti-Steve Smith bandwagon. I mean seriously, Fox is so conservative nowadays a high school assistant could predict the Panther play calling and Delhomme (while a good competent quarterback) is not a great quarterback and probably never will be.

The game against the Bills yesterday proves why this team shouldn’t have won the division last year and why they’ve been getting trounced ever since. 435 total yards to the Bills measly 167 yards and in a game that lasted for 60 minutes the Panthers controlled the ball for 34:40 of that hour. Here’s my major malfunction with this team. The cats put up a respectable 116 rushing yards and what should have been an ass grinding 309 yards passing. Yet they only managed to score a measly 9 points. WTF!!!! When you have two of the best running backs in the league, who consistently have a nice per carry average, why on earth would you waste time throwing the ball? Certainly not because of Steve Smith, who yeah is a great receiver but not a Jerry Rice type receiver. He’s dropped a lot of balls this year and in this game while snagging 6 passes for 99 yards he failed to put any points on the board…. again! For a team that touts itself as a running team, there ain’t a whole lot of running going on.

UGH!!! And then there’s Jake. What can you say, he can’t move around in the pocket and tries too hard to force the ball to Smith which usually results in more like the 3 INT’s he had this week. Whatever, dude… somebody send Fox a memo that he’s got two other QB’s on the roster, geez, let one of them play for a change, they can’t do any worse.
