Xbox Live Avatar tattoos now available

January 9, 2012 0 comments

Firearms may have been too suggestive a topic for the Xbox Live Marketplace to broach, but apparently body modification is an A-OK, family friendly activity for everyone to enjoy. Xbox Live customers now have the opportunity to trade real money for virtual tattoos on fake people via the Marketplace. Available designs encompass the whole of “regrettable,” from hot-rod flames and meaningless “tribal” scribbles to idealistic kanji symbols for “peace” and “love.” We should point out that the tattoos aren’t actually accessories, but rather t-shirts and tank tops with transparent design “sleeves” that replace your existing clothing, meaning that it’s impossible to have a tattoo with anything other than a blank shirt. Tattoos are also arm specific, just like in real life, so make sure you’re really committed to the placement of your “Mom” heart before dropping the Microsoft points. [Thanks, Randy.]

Metallica Planning 3D Feature Film?

October 23, 2011 0 comments

Might be a weird week to be Metallica . The band is on the verge of releasing Lulu , a collaboration with Lou Reed that has earned some of the most scornful reactions I’ve ever seen directed at any album in any genre. But no matter what happens, reviews be damned, Metallica keeps on going. I can respect that, even if I can’t respect all of the work the band does.

Sony Buying Film Rights to Steve Jobs Biography

October 8, 2011 0 comments
How would you characterize a deal to create a feature film based on a collection of interviews with the late Steve Jobs , as it is announced mere days after his death? Crass commercialism? Fitting tribute? Perhaps simply good business sense, something that Jobs himself would understand, if not exactly admire?

Wes Craven Says ‘Scream 5′ Likely to Happen

September 29, 2011 0 comments
Scream 4 was enough of a box-office disappointment when it opened this spring that it seemed to curtail all the rumors about it being the first of a new Scream trilogy. But like its plucky heroine Sidney Prescott ( Neve Campbell ), the Scream franchise isn’t one to die easily. The fourth installment ultimately ended up pulling in about $97 million worldwide on a $40 million budget, apparently enough that director Wes Craven is now saying that a  Scream 5 is very likely to happen.
