Diablo III appears to have a release date

January 11, 2012 1 comment

It’s not officially 100% confirmed, but this physical display at a Minnesota Best Buy seems like pretty solid evidence. According to a series of photos sent into Joystiq by one of their readers, Best Buy is advertising a midnight launch of Diablo III on February 1st . This meshes with the leaked Blizzard roadmap , which had a Q4 2011 release of the game as a goal, and also makes sense considering the builds of the game I’ve seen at Blizzard HQ and at BlizzCon in the last few months.

SWTOR bans players for playing the game wrong

January 7, 2012 0 comments

Users have been receiving temporary bans for “exploiting” Star Wars: The Old Republic , as confirmed by BioWare recently . The only trouble is, the players were not really breaking the game in anyway — they’ve only been doing what the game has allowed them to do.

Angry Birds film flying forward, game downloaded 400M times

October 23, 2011 0 comments

The Angry Birds movie is happening, Rovio’s Andrew Stalbow told the BBC . “We recently hired David Maisel , former Chairman of Marvel Studios who produced Iron Man , to lead our movie efforts,” Stalbow said, noting that the company is working on a series of short films it will release next year. “We’re building a next generation media company.” Stalbow also revealed that Angry Birds had been downloaded 400 million times, an increase of 50 million from just this time last month. Publisher Rovio is currently valued at $1.2 billion, with intentions to go public next year.

BATTLEFIELD 3 – Launch Trailer of Awesomeness

October 23, 2011 0 comments

DICE and EA Games has released the launch trailer for the highly anticipated  Battlefield 3 , which people are saying will the greatest, best, and most realistic action first-person war shooter video game ever made. From what I’ve seen and played of it so far, it’s hard not to agree.

SSX comes shredding in a few weeks late on February 14, 2012

October 23, 2011 0 comments

Despite carving out a January 2012 launch window for itself earlier this year, it seems that SSX won’t be making its way down from the peak (of … uh … development? or something?) until February 14, 2012. EA’s official SSX site unceremoniously unveiled the release date on its front splash page, floating mysteriously above a snowy backdrop. Before the game’s arrival on Valentine’s Day, might we suggest practicing your transitional snowboarding slash wingsuit skills ? You’ll never know when a deadly descent ( or descents , of course) will suddenly appear, ya know?

Battlefield 3 Likened to “Standard-Def” When Not Installed on 360

October 22, 2011 0 comments

Xbox 360 owners are free to install any game they choose to their Xbox 360 hard drive. This can reduce load times and eliminate the obnoxious noises that emanate from the system’s disc drive. Unlike PlayStation 3, mandatory installations aren’t something that’s commonly seen on Xbox 360. While Battlefield 3 only presents installation as an option, it does make a difference — and it’s something you’ll definitely want to do if you can afford the space.

Battlefield 3 executive producer Patrick Bach explained to GamerZines that installing the game essentially “gives you the same abilities, kind of, as the PC and PS3. You can actually stream information from the hard drive.”

PlayStation 4 projects already underway at Sony HQ

October 22, 2011 0 comments

According to a “trusted source” at Develop, preliminary work on PlayStation 4 games has begun at several internal Sony studios. This source says that various game projects are at very early stages, and that several SCE studios now have teams working on PS4 game concepts that could turn into full production games if approved.

Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone launches this fall on XBLA, PSN

They laughed at you when you bought that suit of chainmail. They looked at you quizzically when you started stockpiling gas and canned beans in the garage. They showed concern over your decision to turn that spare bedroom into a Max Brooks shrine — actually, that’s kinda creepy. We agree with them on that one. You’re convinced the zombie apocalypse is going down, and you’ve probably already played Konami’s Zombie Apocalypse game. You know, as part of your training. A sequel, Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone, is set to launch on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN this fall.

Steelers Fan Takes Pregnant Bodypainting To Next Level [Morning Twitpic]

October 21, 2011 0 comments

While pregnant women are posing in Steelers bodypaint , there is Jim Fassel preparing his UFL Las Vegas Locomotives team for its 3rd straight league championship game tomorrow night. Seriously. Many expect this will be the last you’ll ever hear of the UFL. Only four teams remain in the league and two have to play for the title. Virginia gets the pleasure of making the trip to Vegas. In other news, NFL Films will be unleashing this catalog . Let’s get rolling!

Jersey Shore’s Snooki Has Games, Apps Coming to Facebook and iOS

October 20, 2011 0 comments

Nicole Polizzi, better known as Snooki on Jersey Shore , has agreed to a deal with a developer to release a number of apps and games starting next month.

The deal is with Apps Genius Corp, a company whose lone game on iOS is Slap a Friend, an app where you can plaster someone’s face onto a character and proceed to beat them around with a bat, drop bowling balls on them, and so on. It’s an appropriate partnership as I can imagine Snooki’s face has been used in this game a number of times.

The other iOS release from Apps Genius is Bed Bug Alert, an app that allows you to keep track and report bed bug infestations. (No, it’s not a game.) Its website lists some of its Facebook projects, which include Bruisers (a “turn based strategy war game” with pirates and ninjas), Drama Llama (“Now you can track who causes the most drama among your friends and family”), and My Mad Millions (a game where you must spend $300 million and have nothing left over at the end).

Critics of Modern Warfare 3's engine 'have no idea'

October 19, 2011 0 comments

There’s no denying that, sat next to Battlefield 3 , this year’s Call of Duty entry looks a little unimpressive. Nevertheless, co-developer Sledgehammer Games has defended the game’s aging engine in no uncertain terms.

So the group stages are over and we are all sat twiddling our thumbs waiting for the knockout stages which start this weekend. Now our in-house expert was a touch controversial saying both Ireland and Wales would be on the plane home by now. We are pleased to report they aren’t and in-fact shall be battling it out on Saturday morning in probably the match of the Quarter Finals.

When we were your age, we didn’t have Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary achievements

October 17, 2011 0 comments

It’s hard to imagine a Halo game without achievements, but in the long passed, black-and-white prohibition-era yesteryear of 2001, that’s just how things were. No ‘chievos to grind, no Gamerscore to bolster, and only the earliest, fledgling proto-trolls were hurling racial slurs over Xbox Live. A lot has changed since then, and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary knows that kids these days couldn’t handle a Halo experience devoid of achievements, so jump past the break for a complete list of points you never had the opportunity to earn in the first place.
